Periodontics
This branch of dentistry is responsible for the supporting tissues around the teeth, specifically the gums and the alveolar bone.
Treatment can be classified into several types. Some patients only require a professional cleaning to remove bacterial plaque, tartar (calculus), and tooth stains, known as prophylaxis. Other patients may present an advanced condition known as periodontal disease, which requires not only plaque removal but also advanced surgical procedures to control the disease. Similarly, minor plastic surgeries can be performed to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the teeth.
